Electricity Rates Likely to Drop by 63 Paisas per Unit for a Month

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a proposal to NEPRA, requesting a 63 paisas per unit reduction in electricity prices under November’s monthly fuel price adjustment. A hearing on this matter is scheduled for December 31.

According to the CPPA’s request, the total cost of electricity generation amounted to Rs. 55.76 billion, with an average production cost of Rs. 7.28 per unit.

The breakdown reveals that electricity produced from LNG cost Rs. 23.20 per unit, imported electricity from Iran cost Rs. 27.15 per unit, and coal-based electricity generation cost Rs. 14.92 per unit. Electricity generated from nuclear sources remained the cheapest at Rs. 1.73 per unit.

It is worth noting that NEPRA has previously reduced electricity prices four times consecutively under monthly adjustments
