Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yunus, held a meeting in Cairo during the D-8 Summit, reflecting the strong goodwill and fraternal ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the historic, religious, and cultural connections between the two nations and expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in trade, people-to-people connectivity, and cultural exchanges.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of joint efforts to explore new avenues for economic cooperation, particularly in sectors such as chemicals, cement clinker, surgical instruments, leather products, and the IT sector. He stressed the need to maximize trade in these areas.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also thanked Bangladesh for recent measures to facilitate trade and travel between the two nations, including the removal of the 100% physical inspection requirement for goods arriving from Pakistan and the elimination of special security desks at Dhaka airport for Pakistani passengers. He also expressed gratitude for the removal of additional clearance requirements for Pakistani visa applicants.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the recent positive developments in bilateral relations and the growing high-level exchanges. They agreed on the importance of deepening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and aligning efforts to achieve mutually beneficial development goals.
Both leaders acknowledged the significance of people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges, which include artists, athletes, academics, and students. They expressed satisfaction with the upcoming visit of Bangladesh’s cricket team to Pakistan and the performance of Pakistani artists in Dhaka. Furthermore, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on various multilateral platforms, including the D-8.
