Pakistan has officially entered a season of intense cold as heavy snowfall and torrential rains in the northern regions have significantly increased the severity of the winter. In response, school timings across various areas have been adjusted.
The lowest temperature recorded yesterday was in Leh, dropping to a freezing -12°C. Karachi also experienced icy winds, leaving citizens shivering. Meanwhile, Lahore once again topped the list of Pakistan’s most polluted cities, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 223 recorded this morning.
In Azad Kashmir, where the cold has intensified, the government has revised school timings for both public and private institutions. Schools will now operate from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, while on Fridays, they will remain open from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
Health experts have warned of a surge in illnesses such as colds, flu, and throat infections due to the dry winter. The Meteorological Department predicts that the cold wave is likely to persist across the country in the coming days
