The Kuwaiti government has revoked the citizenship of 3,043 individuals based on charges of fraud, dual nationality, and other allegations. This decision was made following the recommendations of the Citizenship Verification Committee.
Fraud and Dual Nationality:
- Among those affected, 2,863 individuals hailed from 54 different countries and held dual citizenship, which is prohibited under Kuwaiti law.
- The action was taken against individuals found guilty of acquiring citizenship through fraudulent means.
Committee’s Performance:
- The Citizenship Verification Committee, which was established to validate citizenship cases, has registered over 12,000 cases since August.
- In just three and a half months, more than 9,000 individuals have had their citizenship revoked.
Protection of Women’s Rights:
- Foreign women married to Kuwaiti men, as well as divorced or widowed women, have been exempted from citizenship revocation.
- Their jobs and pensions will remain secure.
Hotline Established:
- Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has set up a hotline to report individuals who hold dual citizenship or have obtained citizenship through fraudulent means.
- The identity of those reporting such cases will remain confidential.
Legal Actions:
- Several individuals who acquired citizenship through forgery have been charged, and many have been sent to jail through court orders.
This move is part of the Kuwaiti government’s efforts to enforce citizenship laws and ensure national security.
