Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Ali Nasir Rizvi revealed that law enforcement arrested 900 protesters and seized over 200 vehicles during a crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstrations. Addressing a joint press conference with Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, IG Rizvi stated that operations were conducted using batons and tear gas, with minimal casualties reported.
The police chief disclosed that protesters had opened fire on security forces and were involved in acts of vandalism and terrorism under the guise of peaceful demonstrations. “This was not a protest; it was an act of terror,” Rizvi said, adding that 39 firearms, including AK-47s and pistols, were confiscated.
Randhawa confirmed that Afghan nationals were among those detained and stressed that no foreign individual would be allowed to disrupt Islamabad’s peace. “We will not tolerate attempts to destabilize the capital,” he asserted.
The crackdown left 71 law enforcement personnel injured, with 27 sustaining gunshot wounds. Despite the unrest, authorities reassured the public that normalcy had been restored, and all roads and government operations in Islamabad were fully functional.
