The decentralized microblogging platform BlueSky has seen a meteoric rise in popularity, amassing 20 million users globally. This surge is being viewed as a potential challenge to Meta’s platforms, Threads and Facebook.
BlueSky’s popularity skyrocketed earlier this month after former U.S. President Donald Trump, upon re-election, announced his intention to include Elon Musk in his administration. Concerns about Musk’s involvement with the U.S. government led prominent media outlets, human rights activists, and journalists to leave X (formerly Twitter) in favor of BlueSky.
Despite its rapid growth, BlueSky’s userbase still trails behind Threads (270 million users) and X. However, analysts believe the platform’s trajectory suggests significant future growth.
