Lahore (News Desk): Following India’s decision to not participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the federal government has been in discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Officials have proposed that PCB invite another team if India refuses to take part.
The government has provided PCB with policy guidelines regarding India’s stance. PCB is expected to formally reach out to the International Cricket Council (ICC), seeking a clear justification from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over its decision to avoid the Pakistan-hosted event.
Sources indicate that the government has emphasized that the profitability of India-Pakistan clashes isn’t solely due to India’s presence; Pakistan’s participation is equally crucial. PCB has also been instructed that if India abstains from playing in Pakistan, then Pakistan should consider boycotting future ICC and ACC events against India.
The government has advised PCB to consult with ICC officials and explore the possibility of inviting Sri Lanka or the West Indies as replacements for India if required. Two days prior, BCCI officially informed ICC of its decision not to send its team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
