Sheikh Rasheed, the head of Awami Muslim League, has expressed doubts about the success of ongoing negotiations, though he hopes for a positive outcome.
While speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rasheed stated that negotiations could bring new hope to the nation, but they should not be turned into a farce.
He lamented that jails are overcrowded while the poor are facing increasing hardships. He stressed that negotiations should aim to open prison doors and establish a judicial commission.
Sharing his personal grievances, Sheikh Rasheed said that numerous cases have been filed against him, leading to a sense of frustration in his life.
He called for the release of political prisoners and pointed out that the government is currently under immense international pressure. He warned that the economy might collapse further if the situation persists. Sheikh Rasheed also highlighted that the government lacks public support, urging authorities to assess the real state of affairs by talking to ordinary street vendors instead of relying on the stock exchange.
