Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of JUI-F, has accused the government of pressuring religious seminaries towards extremism while expressing distrust in the bureaucracy and establishment. Speaking at an event in Nowshera, he stated that despite their persistent efforts, the seminaries are being unfairly targeted, but his party remains patient.
He emphasized that seminaries are guiding the nation and playing a crucial role in combating societal issues. Reiterating the importance of both religious and secular education, he rejected any division between the two, calling knowledge a universal asset.
Maulana highlighted the government’s reluctance to facilitate registration and open bank accounts for seminaries despite their willingness to cooperate. He categorically denied accusations of breeding extremism, labeling them baseless, and said that seminaries are safeguarding the religious identity of the nation.
He revealed that consensus was reached among PDM, PPP, and other political parties regarding the Madrasas Bill, but objections from the President’s Office have stalled the process. Maulana warned the government to stop testing their patience, asserting that any further delay will compel them to respond strongly.
He concluded by stating that if their demands are ignored, the government should expect a stern reaction during the Israel Murdabad Conference, where they will also denounce those responsible for stalling the bill.
