The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a 20-paisa per unit increase in electricity tariffs under quarterly adjustments across Pakistan, including Karachi.
According to sources, this adjustment pertains to the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2024-25, covering July to September 2024. NEPRA has forwarded its decision to the federal government.
It is noteworthy that the recovery of the previous fiscal year’s last quarter adjustment, amounting to Rs. 1.74 per unit, concluded in November 2024.
On December 2, NEPRA announced an 18-paisa per unit reduction in electricity rates for Karachi consumers under the monthly adjustment mechanism.
The notification stated that this relief, under the September 2024 monthly adjustment, would be reflected in December 2024 bills for K-Electric customers. However, the reduction will not apply to those consuming up to 300 units per month.
