South Korean President has announced the lifting of martial law following a resolution passed by the parliament.
The president stated that a cabinet meeting would be convened soon to formally revoke martial law after parliamentary approval.
Earlier, the president had imposed martial law, citing opposition’s alleged anti-state activities. However, the parliament overwhelmingly voted against the measure.
In South Korea’s 300-member parliament, 190 lawmakers voted to nullify the president’s decision. Following the announcement, celebrations erupted among opposition supporters.
It is worth noting that President Yoon Suk-yeol had justified the imposition of martial law, accusing the opposition of state-hostile actions and leaning towards North Korea.
