Islamabad: Pakistan has reported three additional cases of polio, bringing the total number of affected children in 2024 to 55, health officials confirmed on Saturday.
Two of the new cases were detected in Balochistan, raising the province’s tally to 26, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported one case, taking its total for the year to 14.
Balochistan remains the most affected region, followed by Sindh, which has recorded 13 cases this year. Islamabad and Punjab have each reported one case so far.
Health experts have expressed concern over the rising number of polio cases and stressed the need to accelerate anti-polio campaigns to curb the virus’s spread. They highlighted the importance of reaching unvaccinated children in vulnerable regions to prevent further outbreaks.
The government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating polio and is expected to intensify its vaccination drives in the coming months to address this pressing public health challenge.
