Reports of social media service disruptions have emerged from various cities in Pakistan. Users have reported difficulties accessing platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and other messaging applications after midnight.
Media sources suggest that the interruptions coincide with circulating news that the government may suspend internet services to counter potential protests organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speculation has arisen that the Ministry of Interior has directed a nationwide suspension of internet services starting at midnight in anticipation of PTI’s planned demonstrations.
However, the Ministry of Interior clarified the situation, confirming the possibility of mobile data and internet disruptions but emphasizing that the measures will be limited to areas with security concerns. The ministry’s spokesperson assured that internet services would remain operational in unaffected parts of the country.
Meanwhile, strict measures have been implemented to prevent PTI protests. Entry points to Islamabad have been sealed, Lahore has been cordoned off, and major motorways across the country have been closed. Despite these restrictions, PTI leadership has reaffirmed their commitment to marching toward Islamabad and staging a sit-in at D-Chowk.
