The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test cricketer and selector Aqib Javed as the head coach of the national cricket team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The tour includes three ODIs and three T20 matches.
Sources reveal that Aqib Javed was chosen for his prior experience with Lahore Qalandars’ development squad during a Zimbabwe tour. He will officially take charge from the first ODI. Aqib Javed, who has previously served as the team’s bowling coach, is expected to bring his expertise to this role.
Earlier, Gary Kirsten resigned as Pakistan’s head coach ahead of the Australia tour, citing disagreements with the PCB and selection committee member Aqib Javed. Kirsten was reportedly dissatisfied with not being allowed to bring his own support staff. Jason Gillespie, the red-ball coach, had been temporarily given additional responsibilities for the white-ball team.
Meanwhile, former Test cricketer Mohammad Yousuf parted ways with the PCB, stepping down from his coaching role at the National Cricket Academy.
The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to play Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, followed by a series against South Africa from December 10 to January 7, featuring three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests.
